The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Psychology is offered by the College of Arts and Sciences. It is a campus-based program that requires a total of 120 credit hours. Students study how individuals develop, cope, and prosper in today’s world. They study psychological theories and how they apply to various situations. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics in psychology, such as lifespan development, positive psychology, abnormal behavior, and health psychology. Students build on their theoretical knowledge of psychology through traditional learning and practical application. Both programs require general education courses, psychology courses, and electives. The BA program requires the completion of a foreign language component. The BS program requires more courses in physical and computer science. The psychology courses include Methods in Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Psychology of Personality, Psychology of Social Interaction, Psychology Tests and Measures, Industrial Psychology, Sensation and Perception, Abnormal Psychology, Learning and Cognition, and Behavior Neuroscience.

The College of Arts and Sciences offers the campus-based Master of Science in Applied Psychology. The program qualifies students to work in non-clinical health and human services and psychology settings. Students are able to specialize their study in either clinical psychology or industrial/organizational psychology. Students have the chance to work with patients over long periods of time to treat psychological trauma and enhance general life skills. The degree requires the completion of 44 credit hours. The psychology courses include Advanced General Psychology, Intellectual Assessment, Experimental Design, Personality Assessment, Introduction to Psychotherapy, Advanced Psychotherapy, Psychological Measurement, Advanced Experimental Psychology, Multivariate Research Techniques, Practicum, and Thesis.

The Master of Education in Counseling and Development Professional School Counselor is an online program offered through the College of Education and Human Development. It prepares students to become certified as Professional School Counselors. The program focuses on the American School Counseling Association National Model and the Coordinated School Health Model in Texas. Students learn counseling methods involved in the promotion of mental health, positive development in youth, substance abuse prevention and intervention, early mental health intervention, and suicide prevention in school settings. A total of 60 credit hours are needed for completion. The required major courses include Foundations of Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Skills, Individual Counseling Theories and Techniques, Human Growth and Development, Research and Program Evaluation, Multicultural Counseling, Group Counseling Theories and Techniques, Career Development, Crisis Prevention and Intervention, Substance Abuse Counseling, Seminar, Practicum, and Internship.

Lamar University is a public institution of higher education residing in Beaumont, Texas. It is one of the universities within the Texas State University System. It was founded as South Park Junior College in 1923. In 1932, it became Lamar College to honor Mirabeau B. Lamar, who was the Republic of Texas’ second president. It changed its name to Lamar State College of Technology in 1951. It finally became Lamar University in 1971. In 1995, Lamar University joined the Texas State University System. Present-day Lamar University has an enrollment of more than 15,000 students. It operates on the semester-based academic calendar. Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work Study is a federally funded financial aid option that allows eligible students to work on a part-time basis to earn money to help pay for college expenses.
