Bradley University offers a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Master of Arts in Counseling-Professional School Counseling.

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology enables students to study how human beings think and behave. Students engage in a variety of research opportunities and hands-on experiences to gain a well-rounded understanding of the field. A minimum of 117 credit hours is needed to complete the degree. The core courses include Principles of Psychology, Brain and Behavior, Research Methods in Psychology, Analysis of Behavior, Evolutionary Psychology, Personality and Adjustment, Environmental Psychology, Psychology of Religion, Lifespan Developmental Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Psychology of Learning, and Social Psychology.

The Master of Arts in Counseling Professional School Counseling, available on campus or online, enables students to acquire the knowledge and skills to create academic curricula, assess programs, implement advocacy efforts, and assist students with career preparation options. A minimum of 60 credit hours is needed to complete the program. The core courses include Human Growth and Development, Substance Abuse Counseling, Loss and Grief Counseling, Counseling Diverse Populations, Diagnosis and Treatment of Mental Disorders, Counseling: Ethics and the Law, Theories and Techniques of Counseling, Principles of Group Counseling, Crisis Intervention Counseling, Psychopharmacology, and Assessment in Counseling. Students also complete practicum and internship components. The Professional School Counseling Specialty courses include Professional School Counseling K-8 and Professional School Counseling in Secondary Schools. Students who are not currently teachers must complete the following courses: Special Education Law and Understanding Schools: A Primer for Non-Teachers.

About Bradley University

Bradley University is a private postsecondary institution located in Peoria, Illinois. It was founded in 1897 under the name Bradley Polytechnic Institute with the goal of offering practical education to a variety of students. It started out with 150 students and 14 instructors. By 1899 more than 350 students called the institute home. The institute continued to grow to meet community needs and it became a four-year institution in 1920 and began offering bachelor’s degrees. In 1946, it finally became Bradley University and it started offering graduate degrees. Today, nearly 5,500 students call the 85-acre urban campus of Bradley University home. Students are from all 50 states and 33 countries. The university operates on the semester-based academic calendar.

Bradley University offers more than 185 undergraduate and 30 graduate programs. Five colleges and schools house the programs: College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Foster College of Business, College of Education and Health Sciences, Caterpillar College of Engineering and Technology, and Slane College of Communications and Fine Arts. The most popular majors include business, marketing, management, journalism, communication, health professions, and education. The student to faculty ratio at Bradley University is 12 to one. About 56 percent of classes have less than 20 students.

Federal Work-Study

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) is a federally financed program that is available for students who demonstrate a significant financial need. Eligible students have the ability to work part-time up to 20 hours per week to earn money to pay for their higher education. Jobs are available both on and off-campus and the program encourages students to pursue positions that are related to their course of study or benefit the community. The pay differs, but students make at least the current federal minimum wage.
